Hughton's call

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chris Hughton says the players should use the recent criticism of the team to help fuel their determination to put the season back on track.

Many a newspaper column inch has been filled this week charting our recent fortunes following the defeat to Charlton and Chris insists that negative coverage must be used to generate a positive response.

"You go through periods, generally when things are not going so well, that you read things in the papers," reflected the first team coach. "That is something that has got to fuel and generate the players to have enough about them to put things right.

"The plus is, if we look at the Charlton game, if we had won it we would have been near mid-table and much of the stuff of the last week wouldn't have been written. The only way to put it right is by results.

Chris added that the FA Cup is not necessarily an essential distraction from our current Premiership difficulties as we head into a third round tie against Crystal Palace at the Lane.

"We're on the back of certainly a decent first half performance against Charlton and morale is still good. That being the case, I don't think it would have done us any harm to be going into a league game now.

"Palace are a side doing well at the moment. Iain Dowie has gone in and they lost his first game, but results have picked up. There is no doubt that they are a good side on their day.

"They are capable of generating enough enthusiasm and tactical awareness to win games - we all know that they won't need too much motivation for Saturday."
