Hughton: Robbie can<br> set massive mark

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chris Hughton believes Robbie Keane can set a goalscoring record for the Republic of Ireland that will be incredibly difficult to beat.

Our super striker equalled Niall Quinn's total of 21 goals when he slotted home a penalty as the Republic kicked-off their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 3-0 win against Cyprus on Saturday.

Robbie, still only 24, reached that mark in 53 internationals.

He can break the record as soon as Wednesday when Ireland travel to Switzerland for their second fixture in Group Four.

"It just shows you how far Robbie's already come in his football career," said his club coach and Ireland's assistant boss Chris Hughton after training in Dublin this morning. "He's equalled the record and people tend to forget he's still only 24.

"There is an opportunity for Robbie to set a record that would be incredibly difficult to beat, particularly because of the type of player he is and the positions he gets into in every game.

"The biggest thing for me though is that he doesn't miss many matches. That is as important as his goalscoring because of the effect he can have on the team.

"When you look at the games he's played already as the age of 24 if he keeps going, as well as his goals, he could also play an incredible amount of games for his country."

Chris added that the expectancy as Robbie approached the record didn't really weigh on his shoulders.

"Robbie just loves to play football, that's all he wants to do," he said. "If he scores, great, if not, his attitude is that it's all about the team winning.

"It was great for him on Saturday and an ideal start for us."
