Hughton on the Fredi factor

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chris Hughton says that Fredi Kanoute has earned the respect of everybody with his goalscoring exploits since joining the club.

The French striker netted his ninth goal of the season against Wolves last weekend, a strike rate all the more remarkable for the fact that he has only started seven game in what has so far been an injury interrupted campaign for the summer recruit from West Ham.

Having just missed six games due to an ankle injury sustained just after scoring our winner at Leicester, the tall frontman appears to be straight back in the goalscoring groove and Chris agrees that his return to action is certainly a welcome one for all concerned.

"He certainly has the respect of everybody," said the first team coach, confirmed yesterday along with David Pleat to remain in charge for the rest of the season. "If I look at his goalscoring record before he got injured he earned that respect.

"We know that he can score goals and, it goes without saying, of course we missed him. We were able to cope but, when someone scores that amount of goals, you are always going to miss him.

"He is a massive presence and is the type of player that, even if he is not scoring goals, is a difficult player to play against and very awkward. The fact that he has come back in and scored two goals in one game and 15 minutes is testament to him."

A superb athlete with an incredible technique in terms of receiving a long clearance and bringing the ball under control with his chest before distribution, Chris suspects the prospect of shackling Fredi is not one defenders relish.

"If I was a centre-half I wouldn't be looking forward to the prospect of coming up against him. At times they are not sure what he is going to do and he has wonderful ability not only with his feet."
