Houghton the hero for O's

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Former Spur Scott Houghton is eager to roll out the Brisbane Road welcome mat for a few old colleagues when Orient play host to Tottenham in the third round of the FA Cup.

The 29-year-old midfielder secured the glamour tie for the Os with a freakish extra-time winner against Northwich Victoria on Wednesday night when a clearance from Victoria's outstanding goalkeeper Lance Key rebounded off him into the net to give Orient a 3-2 win.

After spending his early footballing years at the Lane, as a schoolboy, an apprentice and three years as a professional, he will now come up against some familiar faces in January.

"I enjoyed my time there and it is a good game for all of us," said Houghton. "There are one or two faces it will be nice to catch up with - Ian Walker was an apprentice with me and Sol Campbell was a couple of years younger.

"Hopefully we won't get heavily defeated, that's all you can ask for really."

Having drawn 3-3 at The Drill Field, Northwich, 16th in the Nationwide Conference, raced into an early two-goal lead with efforts in the 10th and 11th minutes from Ian Cooke and Adie Mike.

Both goals resulted from defensive errors by Third Division Orient, who had already had an effort of their own from Dean Smith disallowed in the first minute. Carl Griffiths pulled one back for the home side on 47 minutes and the Londoners levelled on 69 minutes through an own goal by Wes Simpson.

"Their two goals were like a hammer blow and we were a bit ragged in the first half, but we were quite confident we could pull it round," said Houghton.

"Everybody thought it was going to penalties. But they laid a weak back-pass to the keeper. Basically, it just hit me. Fortunately for me it finished in the back of the net. I've taken a bit of stick over the years about my weight so it was nice that finally it comes in handy, having a big arse."
