Hotspur - on sale now!
Jan Vertonghen and Ledley King share top billing in the September issue of Hotspur magazine which goes on sale today (Friday, August 31).
It is certainly a case of the old and the new as legend Ledley says farewell as a player and Jan arrives to compete for his place at the heart of our defence.
And one lucky reader will win a pair of Vertonghen’s signed match boots in our latest free-to-enter-competition.
Having already impressed on his White Hart Lane debut, Jan admits that he is excited about the future - not just domestically but on the international front with a resurgent Belgium.
“This is a very big club on the up,” he says. “There is a good, positive atmosphere about the place and that, generated by a nice buzz among the players, has really helped me settle in quickly.
“It is all going well and I hope that, in time, I can become an important player for this club.”
Despite the intense disappointment of injury ending his career, King prefers to look on the bright side as he adapts to his new and important role as a Club Ambassador.
“The plan was to get to the end of last season and for the surgeon to have a look,” he tells Hotspur in another exclusive interview. “Unfortunately, when he did, his advice was that I couldn’t go on.
“I’ve got some great memories. I’ve done what I always wanted to do and it was such a privilege to play for and captain such a great club.
“This is my club, my one and only club. It could only happen for me here.”
Hotspur also presents a ‘Ledley King Factfile’ while team mates Gareth Bale, Jermain Defoe, Michael Dawson and Les Ferdinand play tribute to the great man.
We catch up with our players on the international and Olympic front and pay tribute to the Spurs fans that were successful in London 2012.
Gareth Bale also shares his excitement as the new season gets underway and how convinced he is about 'the future and the vision' at White Hart Lane – as he proved when he signed a new contract in the summer.
“I’ve been here for five years now and in that time we’ve improved every year,” he says. “The club is going in the right direction, I am enjoying my football…and I’m looking forward. We will be fighting hard on all fronts.”
Kyle Walker and Brad Friedel also share their thoughts on how they see the new season panning out and we present a special 14-page diary of our successful - and busy - pre-season tour to the USA.
We look back on our wonderful past in the company of Terry Medwin and Phil Beal among others with Arni Hjorvar, bassist with indie-rock sensations The Vaccines, takes time out from his busy worldwide schedule to tell us why he supports Spurs.
It’s all in the September issue of Hotspur magazine - out now. No true Spurs fan can afford to miss it!
