Hoop dreams

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle is looking forward to what he expects will be 'a great occasion' when we take on Scottish champions Celtic at the Lane on Wednesday.

It is the first chance for fans to see newcomers Jamie Redknapp, Milenko Acimovic and Jonathan Blondel in action at home and kicks-off a cracking double-header with Italian giants Lazio following on Sunday.

Martin O'Neill's men began the defence of their SPL title with a win against Dunfermline on Saturday and are now preparing for their Champions' League qualifier next week.

Glenn Hoddle, meanwhile, is focusing on August 17 - our Premiership opener at Everton.

The boss said: "It's a good game for us, a great occasion.

"Celtic have massive tradition, history and have been in a particularly good vein of form over the last couple of seasons with what Martin O'Neill has achieved there.

"It will be a good test. I'm sure they'll come here with one eye on European preparations and with that in mind, it won't be played as a 'friendly' by them.

"We've got to look at a few people - we've got a few knocks and people coming back - before deciding whether or not we can put out a full squad, but it should be a good evening."

It will be our toughtest test of a busy pre-season schedule with Celtic's competitive season up and running.

Glenn added: "They've been back longer than us, have prepared more and are at a higher tempo. They are playing what we'd call 'proper' games.

"You would expect them to be physically in better shape and mentally they've been up for games.

"But we've got to make sure we put on a performance for ourselves. Feyenoord was a good performance, I thought we played well and there were a lot of things to give us a lot of encouragement."
