High hopes for Burch
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Pat Holland has high hopes that Robert Burch can follow in the recent tradition of young goalkeepers at the club.
Our Under-19 coach has seen 'Burchy' made rapid strides from his Academy side in the last couple of seasons to a successful loan spell at Woking in December followed by fine displays for the reserves and a place on the bench in the Premiership at Middlesbrough in May.
The 19-year-old has also made it into the England fold this season and has been named alongside team-mate Ben Bowditch in the squad for the prestigious Toulon International Tournament that started in France on Monday. England's first group game is against Portugal in Nimes on Wednesday.
The next step for the Yeovil-born keeper is to bid with Shwan Jalal for a regular place in the reserves next season and, perhaps, Football League experience on loan.
"Rob has had a good season and we are really pleased with him," said Pat. "He has developed well, he has had youth team football, Reserves - although not a great deal - as well as a loan spell with Woking.
"Although that was quite a difficult experience, he came through it well. He's gone on to play for England and we just hope he keeps making that progress.
"When you look at our tradition of goalkeepers we had Ian Walker who came through the youth team here and then other lads who didn’t quite make it here but have gone on - Chris Day, Espen Baardsen, Alan Marriott, they are all playing League football and it's great to see those boys playing at that standard.
"We are keeping our fingers crossed that Rob plays for Spurs, but at the worst becomes a good League player. At the moment we are happy with his progress."
