Heartbreak for Under-16s
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
A last-gasp equaliser from Everton denied our under-17 side a place in the Academy play-off final before they were eventually defeated 6-5 in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
In a game that was tight, tense and uncompromising, there was little to choose between the sides and few clear chances were created in normal time.
The match entered into extra-time in the heat at Spurs Lodge and Jimmy Neighbour's side looked like they had struck the decisive blow when Charlie Lee's header was hooked off the line and the clearance fell to Mark Wright (left), who blasted home his second goal in two games five minutes from time.
Everton responded well to the setback and Jamie O'Hara acrobatically cleared a goalbound effort off the line before a ball was hoisted into the area and Everton's Mark Hughes executed a perfect overhead kick to beat Tommy Forecast in our goal.
It was penalties that decided the contest and, after missing their first kick, the visitors eventually emerged the 6-5 winners.
Jimmy was naturally proud of the application shown by his team and said they have shown great qualities.
"I said to them before that whatever happens they have done really well - and they have. Everton are a good team and we were with them all the way.
"We scored a great goal but, unfortunately we couldn't quite hold on. We were about a minute from being in the final.
"Credit to them, they kept going and they have shown a lot of qualities this week and the staff have been terrific as well.
"It wasn't a great football match, as such. It was very intense and the boys were nervous and worried about making mistakes. But as the game progressed we got more of the ball and gave them problems.
"To lose the game on penalties is a bit of a sickener, but it is part of football and they have got to learn that."
