Harry on target for England Under-21s

Harry Kane stepped off the bench to secure victory for England Under-21s against Lithuania in Friday evening’s European Under-21 Championship qualifier.

Our front man was introduced in the 64th minute with the game finely poised at 0-0 – and he was soon to the fore.

After causing the hosts problems through the middle, he found the net nine minutes from time when he headed home James Ward-Prowse’s cross to secure a 1-0 win for the Young Lions.

Tom Carroll, currently on loan at Swansea City, played 90 minutes for England while Alex Pritchard, on loan at Brentford, went on as a substitute with 11 minutes left.

Elsewhere, defender Dominic Ball played the full game for England Under-20s as they beat Romania 6-0 in a friendly while Josh Onomah was particularly lively in the second half of England Under-18s’ 3-1 win against the Netherlands. Josh played 70 minutes, during which time he played a part in the build-up to England’s second goal and also hit the bar.

Meanwhile, Milos Veljkovic played 90 minutes for Serbia Under-21s in their 3-2 European Under-21 Championship qualifying defeat against Italy and Kenny McEvoy was an unused substitute for Republic of Ireland Under-21s as they lost 2-0 to Germany.

In addition, Emmanuel Adebayor’s Togo lost 2-1 to Guinea in an African Cup of Nations qualifier.
