Harry: "It was the perfect night"
19 May 2017|Tottenham Hotspur
Where do you start with Harry Kane?
How about his first four-goal haul which inspired the team to a magnificent 6-1 win at Leicester City on Thursday night? Or the fact that he’s now top of the Golden Boot goalscoring charts again on 26 with one match left, having jumped two ahead of Everton’s Romelu Lukaku? What about the fact that his 26 league goals have come in 29 games after two spells out with injury this season? Or that he’s now hit four hat-tricks this season, only the sixth Spur to do so after Ted Harper, George Hunt, Jonny Morrison, Bobby Smith and Jimmy Greaves? That he’s gone past the 30-goal mark again? That he’s only the fifth player in Premier League history to score 25-plus goals in successive seasons, following Robbie Fowler, Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer and Robin van Persie?
As we said, where do you start with Harry Kane?
How about the man himself? “It’s unbelievable,” beamed the striker at the KP Stadium, matchball tucked away. “Obviously going into this game there has been a lot of talk about the Golden Boot and I wanted to just make sure I was in the mix for the last day of the season.
“To score four and to play how we did…the team was incredible. It was the perfect night really.”
Heung-Min Son also scored twice to take him past the 20-goal tally and here’s another stat - and a piece of Spurs history - this team has now provided three 20-plus goalscorers (Sonny 21, Harry now on 32, Dele Alli also on 21) for the first time in a season in the Club’s history.
Harry added: “We said before the game that we’d secured second place and we wanted to go out there and enjoy it.
“When we play free-flowing football like that, some of the play around the box in the first half…every man was on their game and it’s fantastic to see.
“It shows our mentality. We’ve not too much to play for now but we went out there and put on a performance like that.”
Our final league match is at Hull City on Sunday. Harry goes into the game on 26 goals, Romelu Lukaku has 24 and Alexis Sanchez 23.
