Harry fired up by Wembley defeat

Sunday’s defeat at Wembley has stoked the fire in Harry Kane’s belly.

Two deflected goals saw us fall to a 2-0 loss against Chelsea in the Capital One Cup Final.

After a bright start where we dictated possession and Christian Eriksen struck the crossbar, we fell to a sucker punch opening goal a minute before half-time when John Terry fired home from close range.

Ten minutes into the second half, Diego Costa’s shot changed direction off Kyle Walker and left Hugo Lloris helpless.

We fought on admirably until the end without reward as it ended 2-0 and watching Chelsea lift the trophy make quite a mark on Harry, a major low in what has been a season of highs for the young striker with 24 goals to his name in all competitions.

“It’s the worst feeling in the world, losing a final on the big stage,” said Harry, one of five Academy graduates in the starting line-up alongside Nabil Bentaleb, Ryan Mason, Danny Rose and Andros Townsend.

“When you see Chelsea lift the trophy at the end it stokes the fire in your belly, it makes you want to be at Wembley again and lift the trophy next time.

“Hopefully we’ll have that to come next season.”

Harry had an early shot saved by Petr Cech and his best chance was blocked in front of goal by a last-ditch block from Terry in the second half.

“The lads gave everything, we left it all out on the pitch,” he added. “I thought we played well but sometimes you don’t get the luck you need and I think Chelsea had that with a couple of deflected goals.

“That’s football and all part of the learning curve - we’ll come back stronger for it.”
