Harry deserves PFA accolades - Mauricio

28 April 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino said Harry Kane thoroughly deserves his PFA recognition after his 'fantastic job’ for us this season.

The striker was named PFA Young Player of the Year, came second in the voting for PFA Player of the Year and was selected into the PFA’s Premier League Team of the Year at the association's big night in London on Sunday.

Academy graduate Harry has scored 30 goals in all competitions this season, the first Spur since Gary Lineker in 1991-92 to achieve that feat. The 30 goals includes 20 in the Premier League in 30 appearances and 24 starts.

“Harry’s done a fantastic job this season, scored 30 goals so far and it’s great for Tottenham and great for him,” said Mauricio.

“He is also very young but in football, if you are young or old, it’s about performance and in Harry’s case, as a striker, it’s about scoring goals.”

Mauricio handed Harry his chance with starts in the Europa League and Capital One Cup in the first part of the season and as the 21-year-old responded with goals, he won a place in the Premier League in November.

Since then, he’s scored 20 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions and 19 in 24 league games - Harry described it as ‘riding the wave’.

“Now it’s easy to speak about Harry, but the process with the younger players is always important, to be careful, to build the future every day, step by step, not to jump 10 steps in one go,” added Mauricio, who has regularly started five Academy graduates this term - Harry, Nabil Bentaleb, Ryan Mason, Danny Rose and Andros Townsend.

“I congratulate everyone at the club for what they have done to help Harry and at the end of the day, Harry deserves it for his performances.”
