Happy days for Alton

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Alton Thelwell declares himself ‘happy’ with the way his debut season in the first team picture went — and he wants more of the same.

The 20-year-old defender made his debut against Liverpool in November, combining with Chris Perry and Luke Young to nullify the threat of Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler.

He then embarked on a run of eight straight games in the first team, before becoming something of a versatile squad player as the season progressed.

Now the pressing issue for the Holloway-born youngster is remaining in the first team frame in Glenn’s new era.

"It’s was an enjoyable season for me," reflected Alton. "I just want to stay around the first team squad and play as many games as I can.

"The season couldn’t have gone better from that point of view. First of all I wanted to get my debut out of the way, then it’s about playing as many games and getting as much experience as possible in your first season. I’m happy with how it’s gone."

Alton reasons that once a taste of first team football has been enjoyed, previous conservative targets go out of the window and the desire is strictly to remain in the picture.

"When you first get involved you are just happy to be in and around the squad, maybe occasionally train. Then you make your debut and that’s when you try to stay in there. When injuries come back again you just hope you’ve done enough to stay involved.

Showing definite signs of modesty, Alton does not go overboard when asked to assess his campaign.

"I’ve trained with the first team all season so that has to be a good season. I’d give myself a 'C' for it."
