Happy 80th, Peter!

Peter Baker, one of our double-winning greats, celebrated his 80th birthday on Saturday.

Peter Baker, one of our double-winning greats, celebrated his 80th birthday on Saturday.

The full-back played a key role in the First Division title and FA Cup winning team of 1960-61, missing just one match throughout that famous campaign.

Brought up in Enfield, Peter faced the daunting challenge of taking over from England regular and 1951 title-winner Alf Ramsey after stepping up for his debut in April, 1953 and he went on to make 342 appearances for us, adding another FA Cup and the Cup Winners Cup to his medal haul.

He left for pastures new in 1965 when he went to South Africa to manage Durban United but returned to Enfield in recent years and is still a regular visitor to White Hart Lane. Indeed, he was at last week's win against Bolton.

"Great days," said Peter as he reflected on the double side. "I had a wonderful career at Spurs and played with some tremendous players.

"I still watch the present-day side and enjoy it."
