Hans on Dutch friendly

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Hans Segers is predicting a close encounter between England and Holland at the Lane - as his compatriots' preparations continue for the crucial World Cup qualifier against Ireland next month.

Our goalkeeping coach has kept a close eye on all things orange around the club this week with the Dutch using Spurs Lodge as their training base.

Born in Eindhoven, Hans kicked off his career at PSV before his long journey in English football took him to Forest and most notably Wimbledon before arriving at the Lane in 1998.

"I think the game will be quite tight," said Hans. "They are two big footballing nations and they will not want to lose.

"I think it will be a draw and that will be a very good result for Holland. This game is very important for the Dutch because they have to play Ireland in three weeks time. That is the vital game.

"At the moment Holland have been struggling and they will find it difficult to qualify for the World Cup.

"They have to win in Ireland so it's important for the game against England because England, Scotland, Ireland all play in similar styles, very physical, so it's a very good test.

"Dutch players are spread all over Europe so this is also an ideal time for them to get together and working on a concept to beat Ireland."

Hans, of course, knows the Dutch faces both young and old. "There are a few people I know from the old days and the youngsters know me as well. I spoke to the goalkeepers and goalkeeping coach. It's been nice to see them and see them raring to go," he added.
