Half-term report

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Our away-day blues have left both players and management with a feeling of ‘could have done better’ at the half-way point of the season.

Saturday’s goalless draw against Middlesbrough at the Lane marked that half-way point. It left us in 11th place in the Premiership after 19 games having maintained our unbeaten home record but, amazingly, still waiting for that first away win.

Full-back Stephen Carr insisted: “We could have done better. It’s that thin line between doing well and being in Europe.

“We would have been in the top six now if we had picked up two results away from home, that’s how small the margin is.

“But it’s important we keep plugging away. Last season we had a great first half of the season so hopefully we can repeat that in the second half of this season.

“Our target of getting into Europe is still on but we have to improve our away form to achieve it.”

Midfielder Darren Anderton agreed: “We know we could have done better. We haven’t won away from home and in the last couple of games we’ve conceded last-minute goals. We’re mid-table but could have done a lot better.”

Manager George Graham said: “I am happy as I could be. If we had won just one away game we would have been in a nice position. I imagine a lot of clubs could say the same.

“It’s just unusual that our home form is so good yet our away form is so poor. That is one thing I’ve not put right yet and it would be nice to put that right, although we don’t want to lose our home record.

“All the targets are still on. I don’t see why not when we get everyone back.

“There is a tremendous spirit at the training ground and the players know what is expected of them. That came through recently against Arsenal. In the second half we were really up against it but we just wouldn’t buckle. I thought we came out with a lot of credit."
