Gylfi Sigurdsson was confident of the outcome when he newly-voted fans’ Goal of the Season left his foot against Hull City in October.
The Iceland international hit a thunderbolt into the top corner in the Capital One Cup tie at the Lane as we eventually defeated the Tigers on penalties.
Gylfi’s goal toppled Sandro’s superb strike against United – voted Supporters Clubs Goal of the Season – and Christian Eriksen’s curler against Tromso to take the award after an open vote on tottenhamhotspur.com and Twitter.
Eight months on, he remembers the goal clearly – and you can watch it here…
“I remember Kyle Naughton playing it into me and I took a little chance on the turn because I knew the defender was running towards me and the ball was bouncing so I made sure I hit through it and luckily it went into the top corner,” he recalled.
“I knew it was in straight away, the connection was that good, I made perfect contact and there was real power on the ball, the goalkeeper didn’t stand much chance!
“It’s great to win the vote especially after some of the goals this season. Sandro’s against United was a fantastic strike.”
Thanks again to the thousands of fans who voted...
