Gylfi eyes fast start

24 June 2013|Spurs Comms Team

Gylfi Sigurdsson says the players are determined to make a flying start to next season.

The announcement of the 2013-14 Barclays Premier League fixtures last week handed us a trip to newly-promoted Crystal Palace on the opening weekend, followed by Swansea at home and then a huge early North London derby at Arsenal.

Gylfi referred to early home draws against West Brom and Norwich in describing a ‘slow start’ to last season.

We went on to put together a club record points haul for the Premier League - 72 - to finish fifth, agonisingly one point off fourth.

“It will be a difficult game, a London derby and Palace's first match back in the Premier League,” said Gylfi, who scored five goals in his last 14 appearances last term.

“We need to get off to a good start to the season, so it’s important we get the three points and go from there.

“We started slowly last season, drew a couple of games at home that we really should have won and that cost us in the end. We’re all determined to make a good start and pick up good points in the first few weeks.”

While everyone was drawn to that third match at the Emirates, Gylfi’s eyebrows were raised by an early clash against his former club Swansea.

However, he added: “I’ll look forward to playing Swansea but that first game at Palace is massive for us. We really want to get off to a positive start.”
