Gus: We wanted it
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Gus Poyet insisted the players knew they had to stand up and be counted after going behind against Everton on Sunday.
The character and team spirit of the side, questioned so much after last week's FA Cup exit, was put to the test again as Brian McBride opened the scoring after just 10 minutes.
But stand-in skipper Gus levelled before the break and in a thrilling second half, Robbie Keane's hat-trick saw us lead 2-1 and 3-2 before finally winning 4-3.
"When they scored the first goal I felt the nervousness of the supporters and the team," revealed Gus. "At that stage you don't know what will happen and that is when you have to show team spirit. It was there.
"It was a nice moment for me to score. It was a tough time but we had to show we wanted to be out there and wanted to win.
"Even if we didn't perform that well in the first half we always tried to come back through fighting, running, determination and we always tried to the right things.
"You just have to win this kind of game. I'm sure if you'd have asked everyone here today if they would rather see us win 1-0 or 4-3, they would pick 4-3, but not with that suffering!
"It was tough but Robbie was magnificent."
