Gus: Teamwork wins!

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Gus Poyet has accepted that he makes a lousy pundit! He tipped France and Argentina to go all the way, but now insists that it is teams that play for each other are most likely to succeed.

He reasons that teams packed with stars have found it hard to cope with well organised opponents who play as a strong unit and are physically and tactically strong.

As for France and Argentina...

"My two favourites!" he laughed. "I said they were going to be in the final.

"The problem is now, that there are teams that, from my point of view don't have big stars - but they have a team. Really good teams that play for each other, play together and they are quite strong physically and tactically - so it is difficult to beat them.

"Probably before the big teams were winning probably when they were playing each other and the other big teams were already out. But now, it's unbelievable, crazy.

"I think it's good for football, but in the end, we want to see the biggest stars for longer. But now they are out!"

Of course, one team to have already caught a flight home is Gus' native Uruguay - a nation with a bit of World Cup pedigree.

"Take Uruguay, people might say it is good that Uruguay went out in the first round - but France are out as well. This must mean that the other two teams are really strong, better teams than Uruguay and France.

"It now must be the same with Argentina, and maybe Nigeria... If there is one team from Africa that I really like it is Nigeria and they didn't show anything.

"It is all about playing as a team though, when you really play for each other even if you don't have big stars.

"From my point of view this is how it is. I was watching France and the striker, Cisse, every time he came on the pitch all he was looking for was to score - he didn't care from where.

"Every time, from any position, he chose to shoot - even when the best thing to do was crossing the ball or holding the ball.

"He looked like he was playing for himself and not for the team. At the end of the day France went out."
