Gus' swap shop

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Gus Poyet would swap all of his goals in pre-season to open his Premiership account with us on August 18.

Our summer capture from Chelsea kicked-off his career at the Lane with a hat-trick within half-hour of his debut at Stevenage Borough on Friday.

The midfielder with a natural eye for goal will look to add to that tally at Swindon Town on Tuesday night but realises it means nothing compared to the big kick-off next month.

Gus insisted: “It was very nice to start scoring but at this moment it is not really important, just about confidence and to show people you can score, but nothing else.

“Before the game I was talking to Roy (Reyland) the kit man and he said to me ‘you will score a goal’ and I said to him that I would rather start on August 18.

“It happened though. I was lucky with the first, the second was better and the last one was a nice one.

“Then I had a header and that was the easiest of the lot! Perhaps it was because I had scored three before that I wasn’t concentrating enough.

“But these games are all about preparation, movement, fitness and I think we did all right.

“In the first half it was difficult for 20 minutes because they ran a lot and pushed us but once we scored the second goal we played better.”

Gus has settled so well with his new team-mates that he feels like he’s been at the club for ages, rather than just over two weeks.

“We have trained well,” he added. “We’ve been training long in time for a couple of weeks and starting to get to know each other, making jokes.

“It’s like I been here for a year already and it’s only been two weeks.”
