Gus on the Blues

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

All eyes are on Gus Poyet as he returns to Stamford Bridge - as he eyes up the first silverware of Glenn Hoddle's revolution.

The Uruguayan star was a hero at the Bridge after scoring 49 goals from midfield for Chelsea in four seasons.

It came as quite a shock when he was allowed to switch SW6 for N17 and the 34-year-old has proved one of the aces in Glenn's pack with seven goals already this season.

Gus missed out on facing Chelsea in the Premiership back in September as he sat out a three-match ban.

Now he's on his way back to the Bridge for the first time in a Worthington Cup semi-final first leg cracker.

Gus beamed: "First of all I'm going to enjoy these two games because like I said before, I've never played against an ex-team. This will be the first time.

"It will be different, different feelings and everything will be new to me.

"But the chance to finish with a final even if we don't win a game, if we get two draws, that would be fantastic.

"Before the start of the season the new players all said we wanted to help to get Tottenham back to the top again, to enjoy it and if we could win a trophy it would be fantastic.

"The first year is very hard normally but we are now three games away. Everyone is excited and let's go for it, why not?"

Looking back on his surprise departure from Chelsea, Gus said it was his decision and he certainly had no regrets.

"I said many times I don't have any regrets especially because of the people I have now found at Spurs," he declared.

"I had a meeting and at that moment I realised myself, no-one else, that they didn't want me there and I made a decision to move.

"Now I am on the other side and it is a special game. It will be a normal game because it is football, nothing different, but special."

Blues have been the Jekkyl and Hyde team of the Premiership so far this season, capable of beating anyone on their day but seemingly prone to shock defeats, especially at home.

"That is Chelsea," said Gus. "The biggest game they win, make everyone think they can win the championship and then make a big mistake at home.

"The problem is, and I have to say this, against Tottenham it is different.

"They have the mentality over the last 10 years that they are going to win the game and they play with a different attitude and normally they find something, like at White Hart Lane this season when Marcel Desailly scored in the last minute.

"I don't know if Marcel scores more than one goal a year, maybe two, it just happened to be against Spurs.

"We have to finish that and I think we have a good chance. Normally you have two games to change history but this time we have four."
