Gudni's tough decision

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Gudni Bergsson will be back at the Lane next season — as long as he isn’t tempted to return home to Iceland.

He led Bolton Wanderers back into the Premiership with a memorable Division One play-off success at Cardiff Millennium Stadium at the weekend.

A versatile defender, Bergsson made 87 appearances for us between 1988-95 before moving to Bolton.

But having taken Sam Allardyce’s men back into the top flight he is now pondering over a tough personal decision of whether or not to return home to Iceland. Will the lure of the Premiership be enough?

Bergsson admitted: “It’s very tempting, mainly for family reasons, thinking about moving home to Iceland but the lure of the Premiership is great for everyone and I have to sit down with the manager, discuss the future, see what his plans are and hopefully I might be here again next season.”

Skipper Bergsson, now 35, proudly held the trophy aloft in Cardiff after Bolton’s well-deserved 3-0 win against Preston.

It was a case of third-time lucky in the play-offs and he added: “I think the experience from the previous two seasons put us in good stead and we were not ready to fail at the last hurdle again.

“I think we showed that. We were focussed and it was a solid team performance without perhaps being spectacular. We created a lot of chances and I think we deserved to win.”
