Gorman's thoughts for Murdoch

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

John Gorman has revealed his sadness at the passing of Celtic legend Bobby Murdoch.

The Scottish great passed away on Tuesday morning after suffering a stroke on Sunday night. He was 56.

Capped 12 times by Scotland, Murdoch was a member of the famous ‘Lisbon Lions’ team that became the first British club to lift the European Cup against Inter Milan in 1967.

Our assistant manager was at Celtic as a youngster at the same time as Murdoch before finally leaving to ply his trade at Carlisle United in 1970.

John recalled: “I was in the reserves mainly at that time to be honest but I played with Bobby, trained with him every day and he was a legend — a wonderful person and fantastic footballer.

“He played in the famous Lisbon Lions team and I was on the groundstaff then.

“I was an apprentice at that time, became a professional and worked with him every day, played with him quite a few times and got to know him very well.

“Only last year Celtic played Liverpool and I actually took Bobby into the town that night. It’s a very sad day for everyone because he was such a fantastic person and a real legend.

“Celtic play Manchester United for Tommy Boyd’s testimonial tonight and I’m sure Bobby will be in everyone’s thoughts.”
