John Gorman insists that reaching a final and a quarter-final in one season does not add up to a failure and there are big games still to come.
While disappointment abounds at elimination from the FA Cup coming hot on the heels of Worthington Cup final defeat to Blackburn, John says the picture is not all 'doom and gloom' and there are ten big games to play for between now and the end of the season.
However, John admits that picking up the morale of the players was a difficult task ahead of training on Monday.
"Of course it is," said John. "But, at the same time, it's our job. You don't like losing and obviously we've talked about it this morning.
"What you've got to remember is there are a lot of teams who didn't do as well as us, to get as far as we did in both competitions - a final and a quarter-final.
"All of a sudden it's doom and gloom and you've got to remember that there is still ten games to go in the season, ten important games, and we want to finish the season off on a high."
Looking back on the Chelsea game, John added that the team were desperate to inflict another defeat on the blues, but it wasn't to be.
"The disappointing thing is that we really fancied ourselves, particularly after doing so well in the League Cup against Chelsea, we wanted to follow it up. We didn't expect to win comfortably, but we thought we could come up with a win.
"We came out with the right attitude, we were really up for the game and maybe too up for the game. It all went wrong for us on the day."
In the latter stages of cup competitions, the margins of success and failure are very narrow. John says that expectations have grown and the team have travelled a long way in a short space of time.
"When you get that far everybody expects things of you. When you have a bad night and everything goes wrong there is obviously big disappointments.
"We have come a long way, and the manager has done a magnificent job with the playing staff and everything. We can only improve.
"Look at the lessons that would have been learned from the Chelsea game by the three young players - Anthony Gardner, Ledley King and Simon Davies.
"They've all had a great experience, although it's been a bad experience. They've had an experience now that will probably make them better and stronger players for the future.
"They are so young, and now they've got this under their belt. They played well in a game that was not a good game for us as a team."
