Martin Jol believes the team had a good workout in the 4-2 victory over Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road on Wednesday night. Two goals from Robbie Keane and one apiece from Jermain Defoe and Darren Bent secured the win that takes our unbeaten run in friendly contests to 22 games. However, Martin reports that the team still requires some fine tuning ahead of our Premier League opener at Sunderland a week on Saturday.
"We fell a goal behind and that is not something you like to see," reacted the manager after the game. "It was a good work-out but we are still not ready, have nine days and we need them because we still have players coming back.
"I felt the second half was better after a first half with no urgency. We tried to keep the ball and supply Bent and we did better later on, playing more and created a few chances.
"We've still got injuries and that does not make it easy because we've still got to do the conditioning with them. I am happy that Gareth Bale should only be out for another week, while Lee Young-Pyo will be back in two weeks.
"The players we have available to us now we have to gel together and make a good team for the first couple of matches in the league."
