'Good to be back on track' - Christian
21 March 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Christian Eriksen was thrilled to return to the scoresheet and help brush aside the disappointment of our Europa League exit with a comfortable victory over AFC Bournemouth on Sunday.
The Danish international tucked in our third goal of the afternoon after Harry Kane’s shot was parried by Artur Boruc as we registered a 3-0 home win against the Cherries to ensure we remain five points behind Leicester City at the top of the Premier League standings.
It was the midfielder’s first strike since his memorable late winner at Manchester City on February 14 and he spoke afterwards about how important it was to stay on track on the domestic scene after our European defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund.
“It’s good to respond after Thursday – we know that in the Premier League we have different opponents with a different style of play but, for sure, it’s good to be back on track,” he said.
“It’s been a while since I scored, it hasn’t been since City of course, and although it wasn’t as important this time because we were leading we still didn’t concede and I think we did a good job.
“Obviously it means a lot because we’re keeping a bit of pressure on Leicester and they don’t have the feeling that they are so far ahead of us. It’s a big difference between eight points and five points and we’ve kept it at five – hopefully the gap will be even smaller next time. This game has given us confidence for the next few matches and it’s great to have three more points in the bag before we play at Anfield.”
We return to domestic action at Liverpool on Saturday, April 2, after the international break.
