Good result at Sunderland will breed confidence - Hugo
11 September 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Hugo Lloris wants to right some of the wrongs of the season so far when we travel to Sunderland at the weekend.
Our goalkeeper and skipper returned from international duty this week, having captained France to back-to-back wins against Portugal and Serbia.
Understandably, he’s now keen to get that winning feeling in our colours once again – starting at the Stadium of Light on Sunday – after a frustrating start to the domestic campaign in which he feels our performances haven’t always been reflected by our results.
“To be honest we’ve been a bit unlucky over the last month because we’ve done a lot of positive things but we haven’t been rewarded for that and we’ve lost some points, so now we need to recover those points and we hope to start this weekend at Sunderland,” said the 28-year-old, who was in goal for our consecutive draws against Stoke, Leicester and Everton last month.
“I think we need to find our confidence as quickly as possible and to do that we need to win the next game.
“It’s important for the confidence of the team, individually and collectively, to get the three points.”
Coincidentally, Sunday’s trip to the Stadium of Light comes a year to the day since our last away game against the Black Cats, in which we conceded a late own goal to draw 2-2 (highlights on Spurs TV below).
Hugo says all our attention is on the present rather than the past, though, with winning the match a clear priority.
“We don’t think about the last game at Sunderland, we’re just focused on this weekend’s match,” he insisted. “We hope to do some good work all together and put on a good performance.”
