Good day - Younes

Younes Kaboul described Sunday’s 1-0 win at Watford as ‘a good day’.

The central defender played the full 90 minutes and was rarely troubled alongside William Gallas and Jan Vertonghen in Lloyd Doyley’s Testimonial at Vicarage Road.

Chances were few and far between in the first half but we created more after the break and won it when Jermain Defoe powered home his header from Kyle Walker’s cross.

“We started the game a little slow, in my view,” said Younes. “We pushed on a bit more in the second half and were much better.

“In the second half we played a bit quicker and that makes a lot of difference.

“We need to get fit and that’s most important. On top of that, we won 1-0, so it’s a good day for us.”

Our next friendly is a high-profile trip to top La Liga side Valencia at the famous Mestalla stadium on Thursday night – kick-off 10pm local time, 9pm UK.

“It will be a very good game, tough and the most important thing for us is to get back into the same football that everyone knows we’re capable of,” added Younes. “We have to start well against Newcastle.”
