Gomes looks ahead

Heurelho Gomes is confident we can call on a squad full of quality players to help turn our season around after a fifth defeat of the season against Hull City.

Heurelho Gomes is confident we can call on a squad full of quality players to help turn our season around after a fifth defeat of the season against Hull City.

The goalkeeper could do nothing about Geovanni's stunning ninth minute winner for The Tigers, a free-kick struck from 30 yards which turned out to be the only goal of the game.

Gomes was happy with the way the team performed as we created chance after chance against Phil Brown's men, but refuses to be too downbeat about the defeat.

Although the Brazilian admits the result was a difficult one to take, he is looking towards the future with belief.

"I think we played very well at times, especially in the second half, but we couldn't score a goal, which is difficult to take," he said.

"It's a tough time for us but we must have confidence in the fact we have enough quality in the squad to turn things around.

"We will take the positives away from this game and take it into the next game with Stoke, when hopefully that quality will show through."

Speaking about Geovanni's winner, Gomes added: "It was a fantastic free-kick and very difficult for a goalkeeper to save. This is football and we have to deal with it."
