Lewis Holtby insists we’re gaining momentum with every pre-season goal as we build up to the start of the competitive season.
One of six different scorers in our 6-1 win against a youthful Celtic side on Saturday, the midfielder slotted home after being played in by Etienne Capoue in the last minute of the first period as we extended our unbeaten summer run into a fourth match.
Our half-dozen haul in Helsinki takes our current pre-season tally to 14 goals from just four matches – a figure that Lewis believes we can take much encouragement from heading into the new term.
“I think every goal is a confidence boost,” said the 23-year-old, who also found the net in our first friendly of the summer at Seattle Sounders. “For every player who gets some minutes under his belt, it’s very important for the upcoming season so I think everyone is pleased after this game.
“We played against a young Celtic side. They had some very good players, but the 6-1 result is deserved. We kept the ball well, we created chances and got the goals.
“It was a good run-out and I think we can get a lot of positives out of the match. Our confidence is rising game by game.”
