Glenn's window blessing
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Glenn Hoddle feels that he is now reaping the benefit of the club refusing to panic buy during the January transfer window.
With Les Ferdinand and Sergei Rebrov departed, Glenn was tipped to delve into the striker market during the month-long shopping opportunity. No moves came to satisfactory fruition and he said at the time that it would strengthen his hand in the summer market.
Helder Postiga, Bobby Zamora and Fredi Kanoute have duly arrived and Glenn suggests that drawing a winter blank could prove to be a blessing in disguise.
"We held some back in the last window - we could have had a panic buy," he reflected. "We went for a few people and it didn't work out, but we could have gone for something.
"I think it was a blessing - I hope it will be. At the time though we got hit - straight after the window shut Robbie got injured and we were left short.
"Robbie and Steffen Iversen got injured at the same time and it left us with just two strikers. That went against us.
"If we had done something then and it didn't work out we might not have had the finances to do what we've done now. It was something that we thought about and a decision had to be made - it was a tough one. We got injuries when we really didn't need them."
