Glenn's Valley sigh

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle revealed his concern at the disastrous start that cost us so dearly at the Valley on Saturday.

Charlton were straight on the offensive, grabbed the first goal after just three minutes and we were facing a mountain to climb when Kevin Lisbie bagged the second inside 20 minutes.

We responded with a better performance in the second half but the home side broke away for a killer third goal via Lisbie again before Gus Poyet's consolation volley late on.

Glenn reflected: "I was concerned with the way we started the game. Okay, you concede, the home side get encouragement from the crowd and they get a bit of belief. They put us on the back foot.

"We were a little stunned, didn't settle the game down and didn't play like we have been playing until the second half and that is too late at this level.

"We didn't play anyway near like we can in that first half.

"Charlton came out and you know they will come at you, force corners, put you under pressure and if we'd have got through 35, 40 minutes with a clean sheet it would have been a different game. That went out the window when we conceded such a sloppy goal.

"Their opening goal shook us up. We have looked really solid recently but I must admit we looked shaky. It looked like we would concede another and it happened. That is a concern as a coach.

"You can't concede goals like that away from home early on and expect things to go your way. It's as simple as that.

"It was a bizarre goal and they probably won't score an easier one all season.

"Deano has held his hands up and apologised, but we could have averted all three goals quite easily.

"We had a good go at them in the second half and showed a lot of character but the third goal was always going to be the key moment.

"Kiely's save from Teddy's volley was exquisite but if that goes in, we'd be sitting here talking about a different result.

"Instead, we're in possession, give the ball away and they hit us on the counter. That was the key goal. We had lots of chances but it wasn't to be. We'll learn our lessons from it."
