Glenn's stamp of quality
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Glenn Hoddle has handed his existing squad a major boost by declaring himself well aware of the ‘quality’ players already at the club and said he will always seek to improve the talents of individual players.
The appointment of a new manager traditionally leads to a media feeding frenzy on the subject of potential spending sprees and several figures and supposed targets have already been bandied about in the press.
"It’s very early days," said Glenn after watching training on Monday afternoon. "There’s quality at the club here already. Too many people are saying about what needs to be brought in and how much needs to be spent.
"Of course there has to be a budget for new players better than the ones we’ve got, but there is quality players here already — especially if we can get everybody fit."
Glenn went on to hint that more subtle changes might be introduced in the short-term.
"The bottom line is, when a new coach comes in, he might have different ideas on playing a slightly different shape which might suit someone and might not suit another.
"So I have to get to know the squad very quickly and then I’ll assess where I need to go and improve.
"I need to be very vigilant in improving the players we have got.
"That’s important, wherever I’ve gone, at Chelsea, Swindon, Southampton, I’ve left the club having improved players with the help of the coaching staff.
"With John Gorman and Chris Hughton now, we need players to be improving all the time. You can never afford to stop still. And if you can add to the squad with quality players as well then you’ve got a chance of taking the thing forward."
