Glenn's passing fancy

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle says he is happy with how the foundations are being laid in his new era - with his new-look Spurs following his footballing principles and the passing game the club is famous for.

Travelling fans were treated to another display full of passing panache - mixed in with no less defensive grit and hard work - in Sunday's 2-0 victory against Newcastle United.

It was suggested to him that his team was being built on the traditions of the great Spurs teams that he was once part of.

"It's (the passing game) always been my principle anyway," Glenn explained. "I've brought people in who are good passers, good users of the ball who can balance off with the players already at the club. We've good youngsters as well.

"There is a bit of foundation work going on at the moment and I think it will be interesting to see where we are in a couple of years time.

"We're putting in the foundations and it's growing and getting better and better.

"We can't get carried away though. There are a lot of magnificent teams in this division and we have to make sure we work our way back into that top five."

The first half display in-particular at St James' Park will have come as no surprise to those who have watched all season.

And Glenn pointed out: "We've passed that ball like that all season and haven't had our just rewards, home and away.

"It's good we've turned it into three points because we've performed like that in games and not won and that is a concern at times.

"There are days when you are not going to perform as well. I'm delighted with how we've passed the ball and the supporters are enjoying watching us play, which is very important for the club."
