Glenn turns up heat
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Glenn Hoddle is ready to turn up the heat in pre-season — although he has travelled to Greece with every intention of ‘protecting’ his players.
AEK Athens provide the tenth and final test of what has been a hectic friendly programme since July 13.
The players flew out to Greece on Saturday for Sunday’s friendly (8.15pm kick-off, local time) with an unbeaten record of eight wins in nine matches so far.
But while Glenn welcomes the test, he is well aware that next week’s Premiership opener against Villa is all that really matters - all 20 of the travelling squad are expected to feature.
“We will take a strong squad out and protect the players because the main thing for us is Villa,” he said. “We won’t use a 22 and two teams but we’ve 20 players going. We can protect players if I feel we need to.
“It’s the last one of a lot of games although obviously all the players haven’t played all the games.
“It will be hot and it’s an interesting game for us.
“The fact that the Nationwide League starts this weekend means that there weren’t many games in this country that were going to be worthwhile and I think with the climate and the link with ENIC as well, it’s an ideal game for us.
“There are internationals next week, Ledley could even be playing on Tuesday, so it goes without saying it’s difficult and we have to be vigilant about that.
“It will be a tough game and a good test, certainly in that climate as well, lads will lose a few pounds!”
