Glenn true to Spurs values

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle has admitted his delight at being able to uphold the traditions of the club by taking his team to a first cup final in his first season as manager.

It was pointed out to Glenn that he left the club after a cup final in 1987 and that winning one so soon after his return is a healthy signal.

"The history of the club is the history of the club and there's a lot to be proud of," said Glenn on Thursday. "With different generations of players and teams that have been built here.

"But for me as manager here it's about players that are here today and the future. So for me it's just pleasing that we can give the fans a day out and hopefully a trophy in my first year here."

Glenn added that the extra pressure of being a Tottenham old boy attempting to restore former glories comes purely from himself.

"Every bit of pressure comes from within. It is self evident that the pressure is put on your own shoulders from yourself.

"I've got a burning love for this club, I not only want to do well for it, I've got a genuine love for it - which puts pressure on you straight away.

"It's no different from what everyone else at the club wants, players, board and supporters. I am aware of the demands - and nobody knows the demands like myself, what I want for the club.

"Of course, that's because it's got a history, some clubs haven't got one. This club has, be it more in the cups than the championship.

"My ultimate goal, and I'll only be satisfied if I've left this club however many years down the line with a genuine chance of going into games and going into seasons with a chance of winning.

"Whether it will ever happen I don't know, but that is where I want to get the club. If trophies and success comes round the corner then so be it.

"From day one my vision is that. It is a pressure you put on yourself, and it's also a pressure that you put on everyone else at the club. I think it starts from the top and filters down."

While the supporters have marvelled at the improvement since Glenn's return, the boss is adament that the key is winning and not winning plaudits for artistic merit.

"They've been very happy with some of the style of football we've played, they've made that pretty evident with letters and from people I've met.

"My answer to fans when I meet them - I met one the other day who came up and said 'thanks for bringing the football back, thanks for bringing Tottenham back' - is saying 'that's one thing, we're not just here to play pretty football, we're here to play attractive football that can win things'. That's really been the principle."
