Glenn: That was gr-eight
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Glenn Hoddle was naturally delighted with our first pre-season outing at Stevenage Borough on Friday night.
Summer capture Gustavo Poyet grabbed the spotlight with a hat-trick in the first half-hour of his debut in the 8-1 victory at Broadhall Way.
Goran Bunjevcevic also made his debut and there was a brace each for young strikers Steve Ferguson and Yannick Kamanan.
But the biggest cheer of the night went to Steffen Freund, who finally broke his duck with his first goal since joining the club in January 1999.
Boss Glenn said: "I was delighted to see Gus score. He will be a major asset to us there is no doubt about that. He is an infectious character.
"Goran hit one wonderful ball to Les for one of Gus’s goals and he has that in his locker. He has the ability to hurt people with his passing. He’ll need more time because of the language and it’s all a little different. He’ll have to learn quickly as well.
"We would expect to win the game and expect to win it quite comfortably, that happened and that is always good.
"But it was no more than a practice match for us. We got more out of it by playing two teams, I’ve always done that every pre-season and then we build it up slowly.
"There were a lot of good things out there, a lot from the youngsters as well. That will give them confidence. It doesn’t matter what the opposition is.
"Whenever you play in pre-season the number one concern is that you come through injury free. We’ve done that.
"On the football side it was good to see us have the movement. It doesn’t matter what opposition you have, if you have good movement and passing ability then that is the way forward. Those are the principles we are setting down."
Next stop on the pre-season tour is at Swindon Town on Tuesday night.
