Glenn: Tano 'reckless'

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle described the challenge that led to Mauricio Taricco being sent off as 'reckless' but not 'malicious'.

Taricco was dismissed on the hour mark for a tackle on Graeme Le Saux and Glenn waited until viewing a video of the incident before commenting afterwards.

"We've had a chance to have a little look because from where we were on the bench it was impossible to see," said Glenn. "I thought it was a reckless challenge, but he hasn't gone over the top of the ball.

"It was a reckless one, one that didn't need to be made in that area of the pitch. It wasn't malicious.

"One of our players asked the ref and he said he didn't see it himself and he was going to consult the linesman. Similar to Old Trafford - the linesman made the decision there.

Glenn said the fact that Taricco has been in the spotlight recently should not have affected the situation. Reports suggest he could be facing a six to eight game ban for his two red cards in a week.

"I don't think you can say that, referees have got to make a decision, this game is this game. He's made a decision possibly off the reaction of the crowd and the players.

"We'll have to wait and see what he gets or doesn't get. I've got to sit down with Tano, obviously at this moment in time it is too quick to comment on that."

Glenn was asked whether he considered leaving out Taricco given the hype that surrounds him and Chelsea at the moment.

"I would like to have had the options, but the options weren't there I'm afraid. He didn't play on Sunday because I felt, being at home, we needed two wing-backs who were going to go forward more.

"I spoke to him before the game and told him to put the team first, but the boy is 100 per cent sure that he's not gone over the top of the ball and its not been a bad, bad tackle," added Glenn, who does not feel he will appeal over the red card.

"I'll make my decision in the next few days but, to be quite honest, I don't think I will."
