Glenn: Plenty to work on
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Glenn Hoddle intends to go back to the drawing board this week — but will not be able to work with the players he wants to.
The boss was disappointed with our defending in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Blackburn Rovers.
He wanted to work on that in training but international calls have left him without Neil Sullivan, Ledley King, Christian Ziege, Gary Doherty, Oyvind Leonhardsen, Steffen Iversen, Sergei Rebrov, Simon Davies and Alton Thelwell until Thursday week — leaving just three days to prepare for our next match against Southampton on September 9.
“In the first half we looked threatening but defensively we weren’t at the races,” reflected Glenn.
“The second goal was poor, he shouldn’t have been allowed to go that length of the pitch unopposed and get a shot on the edge of our box.
“So we have to do a lot of work — unfortunately most of the players we have to do work with are away on international duty.”
The defensive display was all the more disappointing for Glenn after the way we applied ourselves for 30 minutes with nine men at Everton.
He added: “You lose 2-1 and you are disappointed, particularly with the way we gave the goals away, through lack of concentration.
“That is very annoying, especially with how we defended as a team at Everton on Monday.
“I thought we were going up the ladder on that side of the game but we didn’t have our defensive head on at all. That was very, very annoying and as a result we’ve been punished.”
