Glenn on Gus

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle said that having Gus Poyet sitting on the bench against Bolton gave him a good feeling of security should events have taken the wrong course.

Gus did, in fact, enter play shortly after Bolton's leveller against the run of play and responded by teeing up Robbie Keane for our second goal.

However, Glenn feels that the Uruguayan livewire still lacks a little bit of match sharpness.

"Gus is not quite match fit but he's getting there," reported Glenn. "He won't like me for saying it because he wants to play in every game.

"Looking at him on the bench gives me a nice feeling because it was strong today if we needed to change things. Subs need to affect the game and Gus went in there and did it. He created the second goal for us."

Meanwhile, the boss was also able to welcome Stephen Carr back into the first team fold for the first time since he suffered a torn hamstring in the first half of the season's opener at Everton. He previously missed the whole of last season with a knee injury.

"Steve is such a fit guy. He was going as strong in the last minute as he was in the first and that shows that he's worked hard to get his fitness back.

"He's naturally fit and he'll go from there now. That's his first 90 minutes in the Premiership for 14 or 15 months and he can only improve from here.

"I'm pleased we're in the position we are because we've got more players slowly but surely coming back from injury."
