Glenn Hoddle's programme notes v Blackburn Rovers

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

The one consistency this season has been your excellent support both at home and away. I want to thank you for that on behalf of everyone because you have been there for us throughout and that loyalty is appreciated.

It's been a frustrating season in many ways. As I've said before, it's been difficult to gauge our true progress because we have been operating at something like 50 per cent down on capacity in terms of personnel. Putting that situation right is now a priority because we must get this injury situation resolved. We need to get players back quicker from injury otherwise we will never see the real potential of this squad.

The Chairman and I will be working tirelessly throughout the summer to bring in new faces but we also have the bonus in that we have seen a lot of young players grow in stature and mature in recent months and that's an important emphasis on youth development that we must progress.

There are also those players who have given great service to the Club and they too deserve acknowledgement, not just for their play but also because of the example that they set to the youngsters.

However, we say goodbye to one of them today and I am sure that you will join me in wishing Teddy Sheringham well. Letting him go was obviously a tough decision but one that I feel was right with the future very much in mind. Teddy has given excellent service to Tottenham and throughout his time here has done a great job for the Club. Let us hope that he goes out with a bang today.

Another who has given great service is Steffen Freund who unfortunately has been injured for the past six months and is only just back in training. We all appreciate the good work that he has put in.

I also want to thank all the coaching and backroom staff, particularly John Gorman and Chris Hughton, plus the players for their efforts throughout the campaign.

Last week's heavy defeat at Middlesbrough was quite bizarre. How we could have been in control - and totally in control - for the first 25 minutes and then find ourselves 3-0 down is difficult to take in. We suffered another terrible refereeing decision because it was never a penalty or a sending off but we've found ourselves in a number of similar situations since Christmas where things have gone against us to such an extent.

Unfortunately, it is nothing that can be controlled but we've got to hope that we have used up all our bad luck in that area this time around and enjoy a better rub of the green at crucial moments next season.

We're off to Washington for a game and a series of coaching sessions for local youngsters tomorrow and then the squad has a four-week rest. We're back in for a week to top up fitness levels, then two weeks off before we travel to Spain to train. So we'll be keeping busy and will be back before you know it!

Once again, thanks for all your support throughout the season. Have a great break and see you all back here again in August when our aim, as always, will be to give you something to cheer about.
