Glenn: Goran's not the sol-ution
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Glenn Hoddle insists Goran Bunjevcevic has not been bought as a replacement for Sol Campbell.
The Yugoslavian international defender was granted a work permit last week and is expected to join his new team-mates at Spurs Lodge when they return from La Manga next week.
Many see his arrival as a straight swap for big Sol, who announced his intention to leave earlier in the summer and joined Arsenal on Tuesday.
But Glenn admitted from La Manga that wasn’t the case — and that, at £1.4million, he was a real snip.
Glenn said: “We signed Goran with the idea of Sol staying.
“Goran is a completely different player to Sol Campbell and at £1.4 million, it’s been reported at £5million but it’s £1.4million, I think he will surprise a few people.
“He is a very talented player, a good user of the ball, a smashing lad and I’m looking forward to him joining us.”
The 29-year-old has won 14 caps for Yugoslavia and possesses a League Championship and Yugoslav Cups winners medal from his time with Red Star Belgrade.
Meanwhile, Glenn was naturally delighted that Darren Anderton opted to stay at the Lane. The midfielder signed a new, four-year deal before jetting out to Spain.
Glenn added: “I sat him down from the first minute I got here, before he went to America, and told him what I envisage for the club in the future, what I envisage for him, the role I want him to play and I’m delighted that he’s signed.
“The fact that he’s stayed means he must feel the club is looking to go places and that is certainly my ambition.”
