Glenn: Daz deserves recall

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle says Darren Anderton deserved his England recall after dragging himself back from Achilles surgery in the summer.

The midfielder has been named in Sven Goran Eriksson's squad for the friendly against Sweden on Saturday.

Glenn insists it is just reward after the 29-year-old showed the mental and physical strength to recover from his operation in America to start 12 of our 14 games this season.

"I'm delighted for him, everyone at the club is," said Glenn. "He's been through a lot, worked very hard, had an operation in the summer and he's come back, we've identified a few things to keep him fit and it's working.

"The good thing is he's in great form and great shape and I'm delighted for him. He deserves to be back."

As well as having to spend a difficult three months on his own in America for the operation in the summer, Darren also had question marks over his career path - he had come to the end of his contract and had yet to sign a new deal at Spurs.

Glenn reflected: "Darren was in a very vulnerable position regarding his career but he also could of decided to go somewhere else and we could have lost him.

"I had a good relationship wth him when I was England manager and we went to the World Cup and was looking forward to working with him again.

"There were a lot of plusses but we needed to get him through the operation and then get the correct management for his Achilles.

"There are a lot of things we've been working on, mental strength and overcoming injuries.

"He's worked on them, taken them on board and it's bearing fruit now because he's back in the England squad and justifiably so."

So what did Glenn see as his midfielder's strengths? "He's playing centrally, where I wanted him to play and I think his major asset is his vision.

"When he gets his head up he sees the pass early.

"He's confident and that's what he's doing particularly well at the moment, getting his head up and seeing that pass on a regular basis. He's got that vision and can see it before it's happening."
