Kyle Naughton enjoyed the perfect return from injury – a win, a clean sheet and a place in the last eight of the Capital One Cup.
The full-back was back in the team after missing three games with an ankle injury sustained in the 1-0 win against Southampton on October 5.
And he played a key role in the fourth round tie, constantly pushing forward down the right flank and supporting Andros Townsend as we looked to force the Seagulls on the defensive, especially in the early part of the game.
Always in control, we eventually broke through via Erik Lamela on 54 minutes before Harry Kane secured victory 20 minutes later.
“I’m pleased to be back from injury and with how my recovery has gone, I’ve been working hard,” reflected Kyle.
“A clean sheet is always positive, I thought the back four were excellent but the whole team was good from the goalkeeper to the strikers.
“Our aim is to win something and we’ll give it our all in all the competitions and this one is no different.”
Victory set-up a quarter-final clash against Newcastle at the Lane on the week commencing December 15.
No-one needs reminding that Newcastle beat us in the Premier League on Sunday, and Kyle added: “It’s our chance to put things right and hopefully we can do that and get through to the semi-finals.”
