Hossam Ghaly eased the pain of missing five games when he returned to the side for the particularly impressive display against Dinamo Bucharest on Thursday. The combative midfielder was sent off towards the end of the 1-1 draw at Blackburn on November 19 and, although he has been a substitute on two occasions, last night was his first time on the pitch since seeing red.
It was a naturally content Hossam that emerged from the dressing after the 3-1 victory over Dinamo that saw us head into today's draw for the Round of 32 as Group B winners.
"I have missed a lot of games so I am happy with the result and my performance," said the Egyptian. "When you get back you try again to prove yourself and show everybody that you can do something for the team."
"It is good that we finished the group as winners without losing or drawing a game. It is a good sign and we want to keep going, keep the good work up and do something special in the UEFA Cup.
"I think we did well against Dinamo, but we have a top team. We managed the game and everybody played to their best - Dinamo couldn't do anything against us. We controlled the midfield and we have two top strikers who are both technical players and can hold the ball and use it well."
Hossam's response was instant when asked who he would like to come up against in the next round.
"Feyenoord! I've wanted to play against them since we started in the UEFA Cup."
