NATURALLY, I was disappointed I was disappointed not to get something out of our opener at Birmingham City on Saturday.
We deserved something, without a doubt. I've never seen a team dominate away from home like we did in the second half.
When you come to St Andrew's you know you'll get a tough 20, 25 minutes. The crowd is passionate, gets behind the team and they had a spring in their step.
They hit the post but other than that, we've dealt with it. We knew it would happen. We knew we wouldn't dominate from the first minute. We said before that the second half would be key, when we could get the ball down and pass it and our shape caused them problems.
We certainly created the chances, Robbie had a great chance, Bobby had two headers, we hit the post. I was pleased with the performance but the goal is something sticks in the throat.
It was never a penalty. Robbie Savage has fouled our player. He was all over Tony Gardner. I watched again straight afterwards I just couldn't see a penalty.
It was a poor, poor decision and the difference between us getting something out of the game and getting absolutely nil. That was so hard to take.
I personally don't think this referee should be officiating this game. People have got to look at that. The guy had a big problem with Birmingham in Malaysia, sent off a player and there was a big hoo-ha. Before the game we were scared because it's human nature to balance things out. You might not realise it but from the first minute I could tell that was in his mind. I was worried before the game. It's common sense that the last place he sdhould be officiating is Birmingham. That's cost us. I tried to talk to the referee but you have to give them half an hour. I'll put in my report. I've spoken to the assessor as well but that report will go in. I've got nothing against Rob Styles as a referee but he shouldn't have been here. For me he made a poor decision and it cost us. You need big decisions like that to go your way.
Glenn Hoddle said Saturday's opener at Birmingham gave us a brief glimpse of the options having four strikers will give him this season.
Bobby Zamora made a huge impact after on as substitute early in the second half at St Andrew's and all that was missing was a debut Premiership goal as we lost 1-0.
"That's one thing we're gointg to have up our sleeve this season with four strikers," Glenn pointed out.
"One is injured at the moment but there is a opportunity that whoever comes off the bench will be able to influence the game.
"Bobby did that in a positive way. We've four strikers and whoever takes their chances will stay in the team."
Bobby, just off target with three headers, replaced another Premiership debutant Helder Postiga
Glenn added: "Helder needs a little time to adjust to the English game and this was always going to be a tough one for him.
"He will learn from it. He will be better knowing how the English game works and we've certainly more options now."
For his debut he did excellent for us. He's a bright young man and he'll have a bright future if he keeps his feet on the ground. Young Deano's got to learn, it was a rash tackle and a booking.
