GETTING STRONGER

Teemu Tainio reports he is feeling 'stronger than ever' after making his return from injury for the Spurs XI side at Rushden & Diamonds on Tuesday evening. The midfielder has been absent with a knee injury since limping off while on international duty at the end of the season. He was full of running at Nene Park - where the team fell to a 3-2 defeat - and said making the trip to South Africa to top up his fitness certainly worked in his favour.

"I have had a few full training sessions with the boys so far, but it is always good to get back to playing in games," said the Finland international. "This is my first loss in a pre-season game for four or five years though.

"That doesn't feel good but we have to give credit to Rushden & Diamonds. My knee felt fine and I am back now!

"I had nearly two weeks of really good preparation in South Africa, working hard and getting my legs working again. I feel stronger than ever before now so hopefully this will help cut down my injuries.

"I now have to get match fit with more games," he added, before looking ahead to Saturday's meeting with Torino at the Lane (kick-off 2pm). He netted twice the last time an Italian side arrived in N17 with his double against Inter Milan.

"It is a good memory for me. It is our last game before the season starts and we definitely want to do well with it being a home game. It is about boosting our confidence and getting ready for a hard game at Sunderland."
