George's progress report

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

George Graham has admitted he would like to have progressed further at Spurs. The boss underlined his frustrations after Saturday’s goalless draw against Southampton at the Lane.

George revealed: "I would have expected to be further down the success route than I am at the present time. I can assure you I’m disappointed and I know the fans are.

"They automatically said ‘you escaped relegation, won a trophy and made it into mid-table so now take it to the next stage’. Unfortunately we’ve not done that and I’m frustrated as them."

George again pointed to a basic lack of numbers hampering that progress.

Injuries have hit hard this season and despite the return of Steffen Freund and Ben Thatcher we were without sidelined Steffen Iversen, Mauricio Taricco, Stephen Carr and Chris Armstrong, Tim Sherwood and Neil Sullivan were suspended and we lost Les Ferdinand after just 20 minutes.

George added: "The basic problem at this club at the present time is that we haven’t got a big enough squad of players.

"In the last few weeks we’ve been playing with players out of position.

"We are having to bring on a young player like Dave McEwen from non-league football as a substitute, pitched in perhaps before he’s ready, Steffen Freund straight back from injury into the team without a game and we took a chance with Les and it didn't come off.

"We just haven’t got the firepower and the numbers in the squad and we’re really suffering when we lose these players. So when we pick up a result it’s almost like a bonus.

"Since I came to the club we’ve got rid of 15 players and brought in nine. We’re well down on players and that’s why struggle with the injuries.

"But we have to look at the positives. We’re having to battle against adversity and that’s what we’re doing."
