George's medal magic

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

George Graham can call upon one of his own magic moments in football to inspire his players to glory in the FA Cup.

Boss George was a member of the Arsenal side that clinched the double with a Wembley win against Liverpool in the competition in 1971.

He enthused: “To hold an FA Cup medal in your hand is fantastic — winners, I mean by that! I’ve got both actually. My best memory of the FA Cup is probably as a player when Arsenal beat Liverpool 2-1.

“The competition is just unique in the way that the British mentality loves a David and Goliath situation. How many times does he slay Goliath? That is what’s special about the competition and it’s great.

“It’s about the little guy taking on the big boys and the public love the little guy to win. I think that is what has driven the cup on and on.

“Now it televised live in the States, New Zealand, Australia — that’s how important it is all over the world.”

With that in mind George will insist Stockport are handed the respect they deserve in Saturday’s fifth round tie.

He added: “I’ve tried to tell them against Stockport to respect our opponents and don’t take them lightly. We have to impose ourselves on them and at the same time, not underestimate them.

“We had them watched and looked at a video because I always believe in doing your homework.

“We don’t know them as individuals but we’ve had an indication of what they are like. We watched them against West Brom. They are well organised, big, strong and can change formations.”
